Superal 4 shots off in Porter Cup

MANILA, Philippines - Princess Superal charged back at the back to save an even-par 72 and trail Jackly Lee of Canada by four at the start of the 2016 Women’s Porter Cup at the Niagara Falls and Country Club in Lewiston, New York Wednesday.

Superal, who placed joint seventh here last year, struggled in the early going and fumbled with a 38 but rallied with two bogeys coming home to join Grace St.-Germain of Ontario and New Jersey’s Taylor Totland at fourth.

Lee, of Alberta, sizzled with a 35-33 card for a 68 as she took a one-stroke lead over Victoria’s Naomi Ko, who shot a 69, while Susana Vik of Greenwich carded a 71 for solo third.

“I liked where I stood but I have to come up with a strong start tomorrow (second round) and hope to sustain my form,” said The Country Club ace, who has strung up a number of international victories this year, including the Hong Kong Ladies Amateur Open.

But while Superal stayed in early contention, her TCC teammates wavered with over par scores, including reigning Thailand Amateur Ladies Open champion Pauline del Rosario, who turned in a 76 for a share of 24th.

Mikha Fortuna skied to an 80 while Sofia Chabon shot herself in the foot with an 82.
