Makati’s Team Kidlat joins Cannonball 2016

MANILA, Philippines - Team Kidlat of Makati Mayor Romulo Peña is joining the Cannonball 2016, a grand touring event that lured 150 cars and 600 motorcycles and is set to kick off on Jan. 8 at the Clark Oxford Hotel.

Expected to attend today’s mandatory drivers/riders’ briefing at 5 p.m. at the Urdaneta Clubhouse Village are actors Albert Martinez and Jericho Rosales, Sen. JV Ejercito, acting Makati Mayor Romulo Peña and his Team Kidlat, celebrity Gaby dela Merced, comedian Ramon Bautista, San Miguel Beer team manager Dandy Henares, among others.

The riding group of Makati Mayor Pena, who will be using the Triumph Tiger XC motorcycle, is composed of Edmond Ryan Garma, Salen Bernard, George Pena, Mayor Romulo Peña, Edowell Javier, Francis Tapia, Kagawad Rodney and Tristan Cailles.

Open to all cars and motorcycles 301 CC and above, Cannonball 2016 is organized by six-time endurance champion Joey Almeda and is backed by major sponsors Petron, Unioil, Total, Filoil, Flying V and Grandstar, with Bench, Ropali-Kymco, Jeep, Harley Davidson, Wrangler, Hitch Pro, Mazda, Mahindra, Peugeot and Phil_GPS as minor backers.

Motorcycle teams competing are BMW-PK, Ducati, Kawasaki, Honda, Suzuki, Harley Davidson, Police, Pinoy Ninja, Petron and Kidlat Makati, while cars in the registry list include teams from Miata, Porsche, Angeles, Jaguar, Jeep/Chrysler, Peugeot and Subaru.

The two-wheel category will have the premier Cannonball 1,000 division, which will join the cars in a 24-hour endurance run. Underbones and scooters pegged at 300cc below will have a class of their own, the Cannonball 500, which will be tracing a similar but more compact route of 500 kms under a 12-hour time limit.
