FEU-NRMF stops Hobe Bihon-Cars

MANILA, Philippines - Far Eastern University-NRMF hit seven straight points down the stretch as it stopped two-time champion Hobe Bihon-Cars Unlimited, 67-60, in a duel of unbeaten teams in the fifth DELeague basketball tournament at the Marikina Sports Center over the weekend.

Prince Eze came away with 14 points and hauled down nine rebounds while Bright Akhuetie added 12 points and nine boards for the Tams, who finished strong to shatter a 60-all count in the last 2:39 and stretch its run to three games.

Bon-bon Custodio scored 23 points and had six rebounds but Hobe failed to match FEU-NRMF’s explosive windup and absorbed its first defeat after streaking to three straight wins.

In other results, Sta. Lucia Land Inc. edged Macways Travel, 82-79, to tie its victim at 2-1, while Austen Morris Associate outlasted Power Innovation, 90-86, to even its card to 2-2.

Eric Rodriquez scored 25 points and grabbed four rebounds while Aguara Jeffakins added 21 points and seven rebounds for the Realtors while Niño Marquez hit 24 points for Macway Travel.

Meanwhile, action in the event, sponsored by PSBank, Accel Sportswear, PCA-Marivalley, Angel’s Burger, Mckie’s Construction Equipment Sales and Rentals, Luyong Panciteria, Azucar Boulangerie and Patisserie, JAJ Quick Print Advertising, Mall Tile Experts Corp., Jay Marcelo Tires, Polar Glass and Aluminum Supply, and Mr. and Mrs. Dot Escalona, resumes Thursday with FEU-NRMF facing Our Lady of Fatima University and Hobe Bihon-Cars Unlimited clashing with Fly Dragon Logistics.
