Agui, Cangolf shine in WGAP

MANILA, Philippines - Aguinaldo topped Class A while Canlubang took the Class B crown at home as they shared the spotlight in the Champion Infinity WGAP 2015 Circuit’s sixth leg at Cangolf’s South course in Laguna recently.

Aguinaldo drew 42 Stableford points from Janeth Agripa while Matet Salivio, Josie Untal and Mabel Salivio chipped in 41, 40 and 38 points, respectively, as it repulsed Tagaytay, whose 158 included a 43 from Rosalie Heo, a 42 from Sandy Prieto-Romualdez, a 38 from Bernadette Wong and a 35 from Karen Buenaventura.

Sta. Elena placed third with a 156 followed by Canlubang (155), Valley Golf (152), Alabang (149), Forest Hills (144), Eagle Ridge (134), Orchard (128) and Villamor (115) in the event organized by Women’s Golf Association of the Philippines and presented by Champion Infinity.

Villamor’s Sheila Ward fired 45 points to clinch the individual title in Class A while Tagaytay’s Veronica Veloso took the Class B crown with a 42 and Lillian Lu of Forest Hills captured the Class C plum, also with a 42.

Canlubang assembled a 160 to post a four-point win over Alabang (156) in Class B with Debbie Schenk sizzling with 46 points and Terrey Parala, Janette Leynes and Rosita Laurel adding 43, 36 and 35, respectively, in the tournament sponsored by Shell Philippines, Metro Pacific, Golf Depot, Ping and De La Salle Hospital.

Alabang shot a 156 then nipped Sta. Elena in the countback to snare runner-up honors while Tagaytay placed fourth with a 152 followed by Orchard (151), Forest Hills (148), Villamor (146), Aguinaldo (138), Riviera (134) and Eagle Ridge (118).

Marlene Varua, meanwhile, turned in a 43, while Betsy Tuason, Deena Mendiola and Rosalind Wee backed her up with 41, 40 and 38 points, respectively, as Tagaytay, led by  Varua’s 43, pooled a 162 and foiled Forest Hills, which assembled a 161 on Lu’s 42 points, Beatrice Ann Que’s 41 and 39 each from Jee Cabochan and Eleanor Leung, for Class C honors.

Alabang, with WGAP president Anna Haurie taking charge with 40 points, and Mina Rhew, Greely Oposa and Josephine Melrose adding 38, 37 and 36, respectively, ended up third with a 151, edging Canlubang in the countback, while Aguinaldo came in fifth with a 148 followed by Eagle Ridge (141), Sta. Elena (139), Villamor (138), Orchard (137), Valley Golf (136) and Manila Golf (118).
