Non Alquitran - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - At least 1,500 athletes representing secondary schools from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations are expected to show up for the 2014 ASG games in Marikina City starting tomorrow.

Marikina City Mayor Del de Guzman assures ASEAN school officials and athletes of a memorable and enjoyable sporting event.

“Though Marikina is not a first-timer in holding such prestigious events, we take to heart the meticulous preparation to make this sporting event a memorable one not just for the Marikeños but for all the delegates who will come from all four corners of ASEAN Region,” said De Guzman.

The city government of Marikina and the Department of Education (Dep-Ed) are jointly hosting the event.

The athletes coming from secondary schools of Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam will be competing in various sport disciplines such as athletics, sepak takraw, golf, badminton, swimming, basketball, gymnastics and rhythmic gymnastics, table tennis, tennis, volleyball, and wushu in this annual prestigious sporting event.

“Final meetings are conducted by the technical working group to ensure guidelines and calendar of activities in terms of preparation are met,” said Arch. Wilfredo Reyes, secretary-general of the organizing committee.

Physical development and repairs on facilities to be utilized during the event are also presently undergoing improvements.
