The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Philippine Swimming League (PSL) standout Micaela Jasmine Mojdeh added another feather to her cap by claiming a gold medal in the 20th Singapore Open Invitational Midget Meet on Saturday at the  Singapore Sports Aquatic Center.

Mojdeh, a multi-gold medalist in international competitions who trains at The Village Sports Club in  Parañaque, submitted the fastest time of 17.86 seconds in the girls’ 8 years 25-meter butterfly, beating 23 participants including tall Chinese and Singaporean swimmers.

“It is a great feeling to see our young swimmers winning in this prestigious event. They were deprived to swim before in this competition but PSL is persistent to democratize swimming in the  Philippines and now, we won gold,” said PSL president Susan Papa.

Wang Ni Tang of  Singapore  settled for the silver medal with 18.16 while Wu Xinyue of  China registered 18.31 for the bronze medal in the tournament participated in by more than 400 swimmers from different Asian countries.

“We are changing the trend, at an early age we want them to be exposed in this kind of competitive meet,” added Papa.

Mojdeh, who recently won the Most Outstanding Swimmer award in the recent 2014 Singapore Invitational Swimming Championship, will be gunning for another medal as she competes in the 25m breaststroke on the final day of the two-day meet.

Michael Gabriel Lozada of Aklan also made his presence felt by earning a silver medal in the boys’ 8 years 25m backstroke as he checked in at 19.19 seconds.  Singapore ’s Lachlan Saputra Goh topped the event in 18.64 while another Singaporean Marc Qi Xian Lim bagged the bronze medal in 19.39.

Lozada added one bronze in the 25m butterfly category.
