Monsalve, Saso, Magcalayo shine in US Kids elims

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - While routs were the order of the day, Ryan Monsalve, Yuka Saso and Jolo Magcalayo took the other route by fashioning out come-from-behind victories in the Philippine qualifier of the US Kids World Championships at the Player course of the Orchard Golf and Country Club in Dasmariñas, Cavite.

Magcalayo staged the day’s biggest comeback, rallying from five shots down with an impressive one-over-par 73 to rule the boys 10 years by one and join the qualifiers who will compose the Philippine delegation to various events of the US Kids World Championship Series.

Monsalve and Saso were one back at the start of the round but managed to reverse the tide and pull off contrasting victories  with Monsalve carding a 74-229 to top the boys 13 years by two and Saso firing 74-225 for a five-shot win in girls 12 years of the tourney, sponsored and organized by Golf Depot, the local distributor of Ping golf equipment, apparel and accessories.

Blowout wins were registered by Vince Tiamsic, Zeus Sara, Sean Granada, Leandro Bagtas, Aidric Chan in the boys division, the same way Eagle Ace Superal, Annyka Cayabyab, Sophia Blanco, Bernice Ilas, and Abby Arevalo routed their opponents in the girls division.

In the 15-18 years, Justin Quiban won the boys side by three and Chanelle Avaricio the girls action by two.

Those in the 6-14 years who qualified will see action in 2013 Kids World championship on Aug 1-3 and the World Cup on Aug. 4. The 15-18 qualifiers will play in the Teen World Championship July 25-27  and Teen World Cup July 28 at the Pinehurst Golf and Country Club in North Carolina.
