Samsung, Emcor back Davao pro-am

MANILA, Philippines - Two top firms and long-time golf backers renew their partnership as they stage the P1 million Davao National Pro-Am Presented by Samsung and Emcor on Aug. 28-30 featuring the country’s leading pros and amateurs at the Apo Golf and Country Club in Davao.

Organizers of the event said a maximum field of 120 teams will clash for the top P172,000 purse plus trophy with the amateur winners to receive merchandise and trophy. The second and third placers will get P116,000 and P68,000, respectively, with the amateurs to get corresponding merchandise as their prizes.

Registration is ongoing with deadline set on Aug. 24. Fee is pegged at P6,000 per team, inclusive of one practice round.

The top 40 pros based on the Philippine Golf Tour Order of Merit ranking after the ICTSI Orchard Golf Invitational this week will gain berths in the three-day championship although they will not be allowed to team up with amateurs with index of 5 and below to level the playing field.

Format of play is foursomes or alternate shot with the pros to tee off on odd holes and the amateurs on the even ones in the first round. They will switch off tee-off assignments in the second day and then back to the first day sequence in the final round.

Current PGT OOM leader Tony Lascuña is expected to lead the elite cast along with the slew of ace Davaoeño shotmakers tipped to slug it out for top honors in the event sponsored by Samsung and Emcor for the third straight year.

Samsung has been a perennial supporter of local golf, particularly in the amateurs, while Emcor, a global leader in mechanical and electrical construction, energy infrastructure, design/build, life safety and facilities services, has re-affirmed its team-up with the giant electronics firm in its continuing effort to help local pros and amateurs while providing a competition for clients of Emcor.
