Top firms back P1M Davao pro-am

MANILA, Philippines - The P1 million Davao National Pro-Am golf tournament has drawn a long list of backers to ensure another successful staging of the event slated Aug. 25-27 featuring the country’s premier pro golfers and leading amateurs at the Apo Golf and Country Club.

Top electronics firm Samsung heads the roster of supporters as presentor of the two-man team event held in coordination with leading retail network Emcor. The other sponsors are Kawasaki, Apo Golf and Country Club, Cargo Serv, Goetz, Transworld, Malayan Insurance, Dasia Security, LVL Construction and Vigor Construction.

Vying for the top P172,000 purse are 55 pros from 110 teams with the amateur champion to receive merchandise and trophy. The second and third placers will receive P116,000 and P68,000, respectively, with their amateur partners to get corresponding merchandise as their prizes.

The top 30 pros after eight legs of the ICTSI-Philippine Golf Tour lead the cast in the tournament backed by Skygo, Camel, JD Alvarado Architects, RDV Printing, Koppel, Unicenter, The Hive, Business Mirror, Microtel Davao, Air Philippines Express, Footjoy and Titleist by Empire Golf, Mizuno, Custom Clubmakers, Glucoscare and Omnisource Int’l.

Organizers said listup is ongoing with fee pegged at P6,000 per team, inclusive of one free practice round on Aug. 23 or 24. Deadline for registration is on Aug. 22.

The pros and the amateurs are expected to come into the event in top form following a series of tournaments in the local circuit, promising a tight, spirited battle for top honors in the three-day event.

The event will be played under the Foursomes format or the alternate shot with the pros teeing off on odd holes on the first round and last day.

Edgar Ababa and then amateur partner Paul Echavez teamed up to humble a star-studded field and rule the inaugural staging of the event.

The event is one of the many golf tournaments sponsored by Samsung, which also holds the Samsung Amateur Tour, the Samsung National Club Championships and the Samsung Interscholastics.

Emcor, on the other hand, has renewed its partnership with Samsung in its continuing effort to help local pros and amateurs while providing a competition for clients of Emcor.
