Buncio, Aguilar to renew superbikes rivalry

MANILA, Philippines -  The 2011 BRC Motorsports season unfolds this weekend with the staging of the Bridgestone Philippine Superbikes Championship and the Pioneer Mighty Gasket Philippine National Scooters and Underbone King Championships at the Batangas Racing Circuit.

Defending champion Maico Buncio of Suzuki and Glenn Aguilar of Sel-J Sports renew their rivalry in the Bridgestone Philippine Superbikes Championship with Buncio out to duplicate his four-peat feat in Superbikes. He also won the Golden Wheel Driver of the Year and the Philippine Sportswriters Association major award for motorsports. 

Buncio will be up against 11-time motocross champion Glenn Aguilar, who emerged last year’s overall runner-up in the Open category against 16-year-old Dashi Watanabe who likewise bagged the Intermediate crown.

Also favored in the event sponsored by Bridgestone, MIB, Inside Racing and Racing Beat@Wave 89.1FM are Jolet Jao in the Masters class, Dennis Fajardo in the Intermediate class, and Aries Padiernos in the 400cc Unlimited.

The other titles to be disputed are the Novice, Beginners and 400cc Novice.

The other races are set May 14-15 at the Clark International Speedway (CIS), June 18-19 at BRC, July 16-17 at CIS, Sept. 17-18 at BRC and the championship round on Oct. 15-16 at the CIS.

Another Suzuki rider Ivan Santiago is eyeing his back-to-back crown in the 180cc Automatic Scooter class of the 2011 Pioneer Mighty Gasket Philippine National Scooters backed by Pioneer Mighty Gasket, Petron, MIB, Inside Racing and Racing Beat@Wave 89.1FM.

He will be going up against Cassey Ng of MTRT, Jeff Chan, Paul Pangilinan, Suzuki’s Josh Reuben Tan and Benjo Mendoza.
