Shakey's Pizza holds summer volley camp

MANILA, Philippines - To keep the youngsters busy this summer and give them a chance to excel and become players in the future, Shakey’s Pizza is putting up a volleyball camp for girls’ 9-14 years old March 29-April 5 at the Ateneo Blue Eagle gym in Quezon City.

The camp, dubbed Shakey’s V-League Summer Cup 2009, aims to give participants an in-depth training from the country’s top volley coaches and players, develop their talent and skills in the sport as well as improve their values and personalities.

Shakey’s Pizza, title sponsor of the Shakey’s V-League, which revived women’s volleyball in 2005, is spearheading the sport’s grassroots program in line with the league’s advocacy program.

Registration starts today and will end March 25.

Listup is on a first-come, first-served basis at selected Shakey’s branches at Loyola, Tomas Morato, E. Rodriguez Ave., MCU, Gotesco-Commonwealth, P. Tuazon, Retiro, Greenhills, Megamall, Kapitolyo, Libis, Bluewave Marikina, Glorietta, Malate, SM Fairview, BF Homes, Mall of Asia, SM Southmall, ATC and Paseo de Sta. Rosa.

The organizing Sports Vision is eyeing some 400 campers with fee pegged at P2,500, inclusive of summer camp volley shirt, volleyball, sports bag, sports jug, face towel and meals.

Camp times are set 8-10 a.m.; 10 a.m.-12 p.m.; 1-3 p.m.; and 3-5 p.m.

Conducting the training are the country’s premier coaches and star players, including Roger Gorayeb, Parley Tupaz, Joy Degorostiza, Suzanne Roces, Ma. Teresa Iratay, Mary Jean Balse, Michelle Carolino, Mayette Carolino, Luan Latigay, Margarita Pepito, Patricia Siatan, Boyet del Moro, Leonardo Toyco and Obet Javier.

Backing up the camp as endorsers are Jinni Mondejar, Gretchen Ho, Balse, Latigay and Roces.
