20 new police chiefs named in Negros Occidental

- Danny B. Dangcalan -

BACOLOD CITY , Philippines— Twenty of 31 local government units in Negros Occidental now have new chiefs of police after a total revamp last March 1, while 11 other LGUS are expected to have theirs today (Friday).

Senior Supt. Allan Guisihan, Negros Occidental Police provincial director, has named the new chiefs of police in eight towns and five cities on Wednesday. He had earlier named seven others last March 16.

He said the names were submitted by the mayors through E.B. Magalona Mayor David Lacson, president of the Association of Chief Executives in Negros Occidental.

Guisihan said he has coordinated with Lacson for the finalization of the police chiefs' assignments after a revamp due to their "below par" performance in the campaign against illegal gambling.

The new chiefs of police are: Sr. Insp. Sonny Boy Biernes for Calatrava town, Supt. Santiago Rapiz (Cadiz City), Insp. Julius Ceasar Collado (Manapla), Supt. Rosauro Francisco (Silay City), Sr. Insp Noel Mana-ay (Talisay City), Supt. Norberto Boston (Victorias City);

Chief Insp Simeon Gane (Bago City), Chief Insp. Eduardo Corpuz (La Carlota City), Insp. Vanessa Sonoy (Pontevedra), Insp. Hector Balboa (San Enrique), Chief Insp. Norberto Delmas (Valladolid), Supt. Calixto Mabug-at (Himamaylan City), Insp. Jason Maguilimutan (Isabela), Sr. Insp. Alan Gary Resuma (La Castellana);

Senior Insp. Norberto Lobrido (Hinigaran), Supt. Antonietto Canete (Kabankalan City), Supt. Leonardo Angcon (Sipalay City), Insp. Lowel Garinganao (Hinoba-an), Sr. Insp. Gabriel Gutierrez (Sagay City), and Sr. Insp. Louie Figueroa (Cauayan).

The 31 chiefs of police were relieved March 1 for reorientation, retraining, and evaluation of their performance, Guisihan said.

The revamp was due to the dismal performances of several chiefs of police in the campaign against illegal gambling, and also because some of the police chiefs were already overstaying in their positions, he said.

Chief Inspector Regidor Alvarado, administrative officer of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, told The FREEMAN that although the new chiefs of police were selected by their respective mayors, they will occupy their positions as officers-in-charge, pending the assessment of their performances by their mayors for two to three months.

If the mayors are satisfied with their performances, they may be recommended for permanent status, Guisihan said. (FREEMAN)
