Cool Smashers, Angels unahan sa 1-0
MANILA, Philippines — Mag-uunahan ang defending champion Creamline at Petro Gazz na makalapit sa kampeonato sa paglarga ng Game 1 ng 2023 PVL All-Filipino Conference best-of-three championship series ngayong araw sa Mall of Asia Arena sa Pasay City.
Magtutuos ang Cool Smashers at Gazz Angels sa alas-6:30 ng gabi matapos ang Game 1 ng best-of-three, battle-for-bronze sa pagitan ng PLDT Home Fibr at F2 Logistics sa alas-4 ng hapon.
Ito ang ikatlong paghaharap ng Cool Smashers at Gazz Angels sa finals sa All-FIlipino Conference.
Parehong nagwagi ang Creamline noong 2019 at 2022 edisyon at umaasa itong madudugtungan nito ang kanilang dominasyon sa taong ito.
“It will be a match up between seniors. It would be a good fight because Creamline and Petro Gazz are always facing each other in the Finals. It will be the third Finals that I will be facing them (the Angels) as head coach of the team (Creamline),” ani Cool Smashers head coach Sherwin Meneses.
Umusad sa finals ang Creamline matapos ilampaso ang F2 Logistics, 2-0, sa kanilang best-of-3 semifinals series.
“We always prioritize the routine of our training. It doesn’t matter who we’re facing, we’ll always put a premium on our training, to apply it in the game and not forget about it,” ani Meneses.
Wala pang update si Meneses kung maglalaro na nga ba si Valdez sa finals.
Gayunpaman, nananatiling malakas ang Cool Smashers dahil nariyan si two-time MVP Tots Carlos.
Kasama pa nito sina Jema Galanza, Michele Gumabao, Jeanette Panaga at Ced Domingo na maaasahan din sa opensa.
Solido rin ang tambalan nina playmaker Jia Morado at libero Kyla Atienza.
Sa kabilang banda, kinailangan ng Petro Gazz na magbanat ng buto bago kubrahin ang 2-1 panalo kontra sa PLDT sa hiwalay na semis series.
Hahataw para sa Gazz Angels sina MJ Phillips, Grethcel Soltones, Aiza Maizo-Pontillas, Jonah Sabete at Djanel Cheng.
“I didn’t expect to be in the Finals right away. I’m in the finals right away with this team. It’s a big blessing. Everybody wants to be in this position and many teams will underestimate us. But we will show the performance, it will show for itself how far the Lord will take us,” ani Gazz Angels head coach Oliver Almadro.
