Sa pagsabak sa mga polevault events

MANILA, Philippines — Matapos angkinin ang gold medal sa 30th Southeast Asian Games noong Disyembre ay kaagad dumiretso si Pinoy pole vaulter Ernest John Obiena sa trai­ning camp sa Formia, Italy.

Simula noong Agosto ay sumalang na si O­biena sa walong malalaking kompetisyon bilang pagha­handa sa 2021 Olympic Games sa Tokyo, Japan.

Sa anim niyang podium finishes ay humakot ang 6-foot-2 Pinoy pride ng isang ginto, dalawang pilak at tatlong tansong medalya.

“We finally come to say goodbye to the weird 2020 season. My 2019 self wouldn’t have predicted that 2020 would be so unpredictable. It has been a roller-coaster ride since January and still doesn’t show signs of slowing down,” ani Obiena sa kanyang Facebook post.

Pinasalamatan din ni Obiena si legendary coach Vitaly Petrov na nakasama niya sa training camp bukod pa kay 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics gold medalist Thiago Braz ng Brazil.

“Thank you Coach Vitaly as always you just are incredible maybe even more. Patient as a human can be with me especially thru those rough months,” dagdag pa nito.

Nagmula si Obiena sa pag-angkin sa bronze me­dal sa katatapos na Rome leg ng Diamond League sa Stadio Olimpiaco sa Italy.

Bukod kay Obiena, ang iba pang Pinoy na nakakuha ng tiket sa 2021 Tokyo Olympics ay sina gymnast Carlos Edriel Yulo at boxers Eumir Felix Marcial at Irish Magno.
