Martinez sinikwat ang ginto sa Thailand meet

MANILA, Philippines – Matapos maidepensa ang kanyang titulo sa Trig­lav Trophy noong Abril sa Slovenia, ay inangkin na­man ni Filipino Winter Olympian Michael Martinez ang senior men’s crown sa Asian Open Figure Skating Trophy 2015 na idinaos sa Bangkok, Thailand.

Tumanggap si Martinez, ang unang Asian skater na nakapaglaro sa Winter Games sa Sochi, ng 188.53 points para pitasin ang gold medal at ta­lunin sina Japanese Kenjei Tanaka (182.70) at Hiraoki Sato (145.89).

Bumandera ang 18-anyos na si Martinez sa short program mula sa kanyang Beethoven Egmont Overture performance na nabigyan ng 72.14 points.

Nagtala siya ng pumapangalawang 116.39 buhat sa kanyang Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet performance sa free skating para maging first overall at biguin sina Tanaka (61.64 at 121.06) at Sato (55.38 at 90.51).
