Sa kabila ng third-place finish sa Asian Zone Qualifiers: PSC bubuwagin ang volleyball team

MANILA, Philippines - Itutuloy ng Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) ang pagbuwag sa women’s volleyball team na kanilang ti­nustusan sa paglahok sa Asian Southeastern Zone Wo­men’s Volleyball qualifiers sa Vietnam na natapos no­ong Linggo.

Sa panayam kahapon kay PSC chairman Ricardo Gar­cia, kinilala niya ang hirap na dinaanan ng koponang naghanda lamang sa loob ng isang linggo kaya’t kanya ring pinasalamatan ang sakripisyo na ibinigay ng mga kasapi ng koponan na tumapos sa 1-2 karta.

“The performance is good for a team that practiced for a week. I would like to congratulate the members of the team for their effort they showed under the circum­s­tances. Maganda na ito,”  wika ni Garcia.

Pero hindi mangangahulugan ito na patuloy na su­­porta sa PSC at kahit ang pagpapadala sa team sa Myan­­mar SEA Games ay hindi niya itutulak.

Ipinaliwanag ni Garcia na ang koponan ay nabuo at na­kasali dahil sa pagkilos ng Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) at hindi ang National Sports Association (NSA) na Philippine Volleyball Federation (PVF) na may problema sa liderato sa kasalukuyan.

“As I have mentioned, the POC-PSC team will be dis­banded as soon as they get back. They are not under the  NSA and they have to go back with their respective teams. We also don’t know if their collegiate teams like Na­tional University and Ateneo will continue in lending their players to the team,” ani ni Garcia.

Kung ang SEAG ang pag-uusapan, hindi rin papasok ang koponan sa criteria dahil ang mga bansang Vietnam, In­donesia at Myanmar lamang ang kanilang hinarap.

Natalo sa straight sets ang koponan sa Vietnam at Indonesia habang nanalo sa apat na sets laban sa Myanmar.

Ito ang unang women’s volleyball team ng bansa na nakasali sa international competition matapos ang 2005 SEA Games sa Pilipinas.
