US President Biden, inimbitahan si Marcos sa Washington

MANILA, Philippines — Inimbitahan ni US President Joe Biden si Pa­ngulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. sa Washington, unang foreign head of state para pormal na ipaabot ang pagbati sa bagong halal na lider ng Pilipinas.

Ayon kay Philippine Ambassador to the United States Jose Manuel Romualdez, iniabot ni US Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff kay Pangulong Marcos ang personal invitation letter ni Biden.

Si Emhoff, asawa ni US Vice President Kamala Harris, ang nanguna sa seven-member delegation mula Washington na dumalo sa inauguration ni Pangulong Marcos.

Matapos ang inagurasyon ay nagkaroon ng pagpupulong ang dalawang opisyal sa Malacañang.

Nakasaad sa liham ni Biden kay Pangulong ­Marcos, ayon kay Romualdez : “I hope you can come to Washington once our teams find an appropriate time.”

“President Marcos res­ponded by saying he hopes to do so as soon as our schedules permit them.”

At dahil pasok sa diplomatic immunity si Pa­ngulong Marcos bilang head of state, sinabi ni Romualdez, maaaring bisitahin ng una ang Washington nang walang pangamba na arestuhin sa kabila ng “stan­ding contempt order ” na may ilang taon nang pumipigil dito na makapasok sa Estados Unidos.
