Paul van Dyk pumps up Manila

THE PEPPER MILL - Pepper Teehankee -

When Filipinos listen to their favorite music, they want it loud and clear. So when Nokia Music, together with Bigfish, brought in Grammy-nominated, globally-acclaimed DJ and audio architect Paul van Dyk to unleash his musical talent in Manila, they made sure to turn the volume up high.

Paul van Dyk continues to dominate the electronic music charts — he has appeared at the pinnacle of every Top DJ list and has been ranked as the World’s No. 1 DJ by DJ Magazine. He has sold over three million albums worldwide, making music revelers dance to his music as he travels around the world over 16 times each year to sold out performances.

Manila was one of his many stops during his Volume World Tour. Sharing the musical spotlight was the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic, Nokia’s latest chart topping mobile music device. Nokia Philippines GM Benoit Nalin said: “Paul van Dyk and Nokia share the same passion for making, playing and sharing music. The new Nokia 5530 XpressMusic is all about that. It has immense memory capacity for you to make, store and play your multiple playlists, quick access to your most used features, Internet surfing capabilities and astounding sound quality.”

You’re also able to download 450 more music tracks and videos for free from the Universal Music website, as well as surf the Internet for free via Airborne Access for two months.

Seen at the event were Nokia marketing head Sandeep Khanna with corporate communications manager Nikka Abes, marketing managers Mitch So and Joey Alvarez and product manager Mike Smith. Also partying the night away were Astrud Crisologo, Twinky Lagdameo and Alex Lim. Let there be (Tumi) light

Tumi recently unveiled its 2009 Fall/Winter Collection during well-attended cocktails at Greenbelt 5’s Fashion Walk. Tumi representative Tom Nelson flew in from New Jersey just for this occasion.

As the world’s leading brand of prestige travel, business and personal accessories, Tumi has always been known for its standard-setting innovations and classy designs. Tumi Light literally gives new meaning to the term “traveling light” due to its ultra durable materials, innovative lightweight construction and advanced technology, distinguished by less-structured, wheeled travel bags that are easy to carry, maneuver and lift.

Laptop-toting travelers will love the new T-Pass collection of computer cases and protective sleeves. Designed to meet the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) technical requirements for “checkpoint friendly” bags, it allows for a clear scan of your computer without removing it from the case.

Also introduced during the launch were the latest Fall/Winter 2009 collections of women’s handbags and men’s collections, both stylish and functional.

Established in 1975, Tumi took its name from a Peruvian god. It is exclusively distributed in the Philippines by the Primer Group of Companies and is located at Level 1, Greenbelt 5.
