LIVE: Senate probe into drug problem – Day 2

 The Senate Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs on Thursday morning resumed its hearing into illegal drugs problem.

MANILA, Philippines — The Senate Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs on Thursday morning resumed its hearing into the illegal drugs problem.

The hearing is led by the committee's chair, Sen. Panfilo “Ping” Lacson, with Vice Chair Sen. Gringo Honasan II and members Sens. Loren Legarda, Nancy Binay, Leila De Lima, Manny Pacquiao, Grace Poe and Joseph Victor  “JV” Ejercito.

Department of Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II and Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa are expected to attend the inquiry to clarify drug cases in the country.

The probe seeks to look into proposed Senate Bills No. 3 (Creation of the Presidential Anti-Drug Authority), No. 8 (Providing for affordable drug rehabilitation treatment for Philippine Health Insurance Corporation beneficiaries), and Nos. 21 and 950 (Authorizing wiretapping in cases involving violations of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act).

The Senate also seeks to review the Anti-Wire Tapping Law as well as question the effectivity of drug prevention and intervention for the youth.

The first hearing was held last Aug. 18, 2016.
