Letters to the Editor

ID, please

The Philippine Star

I envy the over 22.5 million Filipinos who have received their Phil-IDs, the “real” physical card ID, according to the latest announcement of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA). Over 18 million others have the e-ID.

To me, the downloadable e-ID doesn’t really count, even though the PSA says it is as valid and acceptable as the real card ID. Maybe I’m old-fashioned (I am a senior citizen) but an ID that I will print myself from the computer just doesn’t count.

It’s just like the Comelec ID that’s just a flimsy piece of paper where my photo is so blurred as to make me practically unrecognizable. But I guess it serves its purpose in that I was always able to vote.

By March it will be a full year since I applied for the Phil-ID (the application process was easy and efficient – kudos to the PSA and LGU personnel at the application counter in the mall). I know others have been waiting even longer. Now that we are in the Year of the Rabbit, I hope the PSA will “hop” to it and get our IDs printed and delivered. – Carlos L. Lim, Mandaluyong City
