Bakuna na ako!

It seems like having been vaccinated is getting to be a badge of honor. The standard greeting has become, “Na-vaccinate ka na ba?” followed by, “First or second dose?”

Around NCR, or at least in my city of San Juan, vaccine hesitancy is, hopefully, on the downtrend. I was very happy to hear Sen. Panfilo Lacson saying in a television interview last week that my city could be among the first, if not the first, to achieve herd immunity by vaccinating 70 percent of residents. That’s something to be proud of.

Our vaccine rollout has generally been quite efficient, with online registrations, text alerts for vaccine schedules and ushers at the jab center (Filoil Arena where volleyball tournaments used to be held) shepherding people around. Of course there were some hitches and complaints; days when there were lots of people and some had to wait several hours. But generally I’d say the city government has done a good job of it.

In my family of a total of 12 people spread out in three households, six have completed the two doses, two have had one dose, three are scheduled for their first dose next week and one hold-out refusing to get jabbed.
