Happiness and a meaningful life
We all clamor for happiness in life. However, many people equate having good looks, wealth, power, influence, a worry-free existence... to happiness.
These are fleeting, shallow feelings that despite having all these, some people still feel a deep void, emptiness in life.
Researchers found that some people feel happy when receiving things or services from others. While others feel joyful when giving, and derive meaning from using their talent to share something larger than themselves.
A person’s well-being and life satisfaction are greatly enhanced by leading a purposeful, meaningful life: mental and physical health are improved, self-esteem is enhanced, resilience in difficult times is stronger, as the level of depression decreases.
Conversely, people who single-mindedly pursue happiness are less happy.
Happiness is an emotion we feel every now and then, which fades away, like other emotions. While a life with meaning is enduring, transcends the present moment and, with a defined life purpose, gives life satisfaction much higher than those without. Making us realize there is much more to good life and fleeting happiness... when life is devoted to sharing and lived meaningfully!
Peace, good health, safety and abundance to us all!
