EDITORIAL - Hindsight is 20/20 vision

EDITORIAL - Hindsight is 20/20 vision

During this first day of the year 2020, allow us to again greet our readers a happy new year.

There are two ways of viewing a new year.

Some would say there is really nothing to get excited about, nothing new is happening except for the resetting of a clock. That only the numbers have changed and everything will remain the same; your job, the economic problems, the traffic problems, your personal problems, among others.

However, there is also the other view. There are those who like to see a new year as a fresh start. They see it as a chance to improve different aspects and areas in their lives, whether it is in personal, spiritual, health, etc. For them, it’s more than just the rewinding of a clock that everyone follows. It’s about resetting the attitude toward life.

Many of us choose the second view, and that’s why we make so-called New Year’s resolutions.

But the thing is that resolutions often fail because…well…we are just humans and prone to temptation, laziness, among other failings.

What’s a surefire way of making sure we change or make things better for the new year? By looking at the mistakes or events of the old one and learning from them.

One instance shows that, in some aspects, people are learning from the lessons of the previous year; there were few firecracker injuries last Christmas, and that is a good sign. Kudos also to the government for its relentless campaign against the use of firecrackers.

Many didn’t like 2019, however, that mess of a map can be used to make navigating 2020 better.

This 2020, we hope that you will look back at the year that was 2019 to make the new year better. After all, it’s true what they say, that hindsight is 20/20 vision.
