1 cop killed, 4 wounded in Lanao warrant service

COTABATO CITY, Philippines — A police officer died while four others were wounded in a clash while serving a warrant of arrest in Buadiposo Buntong town in Lanao del Sur yesterday.

Capt. Steffie Salanguit, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region police spokesperson, said the officers from Buadiposo town police were with members of the 41st Special Action Company of the military’s 4th Special Forces Battalion when they went to Barangay Lumbak to serve a warrant on Sukair Diocat, who is wanted for several counts of murder and frustrated murder.

However, Diocat and his heavily armed group put up a fight after seeing the approaching officers, wounding the five warrant servers, Salanguit added.

The Lanao del Sur Provincial Police Office has withheld the names of the wounded police officers pending notification of their families.

Emergency responders rushed the police officers to a hospital for treatment.

One of the officers reportedly died later at the facility.

It was not clear if Diocat was arrested, but town officials said that the people who fired at the arresting group all escaped.
