Philippines, Canada launch cyber security training

MANILA, Philippines — Personnel of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) are undergoing a five-day specialized training course, which aims to boost their skills and knowledge on cyber security operations.
Launched in partnership with the Canadian Directorate of Military Training and Cooperation on Monday, the Military Cyber Security Operations Course seeks to equip participants with modern expertise on cyber security.
Philippine Army spokesman Col. Louie Dema-ala said it is hosting the training program at Fort Bonifacio in Taguig until Jan. 23.
“The weeklong specialized training program seeks to equip military personnel with essential knowledge and skills for operating in the modern cyber environment,” he said.
Dema-ala said the course brings together 50 personnel from various AFP branches, with 14 slots allocated to the Philippine Army.
“The training is specifically designed for military personnel providing direct support to cyber operations,” he said.
Dema-ala said the program focuses on understanding the cyber environment, applying considerations within operational and military contexts and supporting the execution of cyber activities.
He said the course co-hosted by the AFP and the Canadian military underscores the Philippine Army’s commitment to human capital development and its strategic shift toward enhancing cyber operations in support of external security operations.
“The Army recognizes that effective defense of the cyber domain requires the constant training of personnel with the vital cyber skill set,” Dema-ala said.
