MANILA, Philippines — The EDSA busway will continue to operate despite the rehabilitation of the major thoroughfare, Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon announced yesterday.

“We will not close the EDSA Carousel. Its operation will continue, but with some adjustment, depending on the location where the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is working,” Dizon said at a press conference.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has said that it would call an inter-agency meeting to tackle the EDSA rehabilitation, which starts this month.

The MMDA said it is still waiting for the DPWH program to manage vehicular traffic along EDSA, one of Metro Manila’s busiest highways.

Dizon said it was agreed during his meeting with the DPWH that the DOTr would conduct the repairs of the stations of the busway.

The government targets to finish the EDSA rehabilitation project, including drainage works, before the Philippines hosts the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Summit next year.
