Basilan political clans settle feud
ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — Two political clans in Basilan have settled their feud at a military camp in Isabela.
Brig. Gen. Alvin Luzon, 101st Infantry Brigade commander, facilitated the settlement of the conflict between the group of Al-Barka Mayor Jaydeefar Lajid and the family of former vice mayor and incumbent barangay chairman Mujiv Jakilan on Tuesday.
The two groups surrendered 10 high-powered firearms as a gesture of their sincerity to resolve the conflict of their clans.
Lajid thanked Luzon for facilitating the settlement of the clan war, saying it augurs well for the economic development of Al-Barka.
Jakilan, for his part, said their group has always been supportive of peace initiatives in the town.
Maj. Gen. Ignatius Patrimonio, Joint Task Force Orion and 11th Infantry Division commander, commended the 101st Brigade for its efforts to settle rido or clan wars.
The Basilan police said the 101st Brigade has resolved eight clan wars since January.
