Zamboanga village chief slain

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — A barangay chairman was killed in an attack that also wounded his colleague in this city on Sunday night.

Police identified the fatality as Franklyn Tan, 42, chairman of Barangay Seaside in this city and president of the Association of Barangay Councils.

Tan died from three gunshot wounds in the body, probers said.

Jaider Abdulhamid Jundam, chief of the nearby Barangay Kaumpurnah Zone 1, was taken to a hospital for treatment of a gunshot to the arm.

Col. Alexander Lorenzo, Zamboanga City police chief, said the assailant missed his third target, Daryl Jalani, chairman of Barangay Kaumpurnah in Isabela City, Basilan.

The victims were attending a gathering of a brotherhood organization. They were walking in the parking lot of a hotel along the Vitaliano Agan Road when the assailant shot them at around 9:03 p.m.
