Alleged American pedophile, 80, barred at NAIA

MANILA, Philippines — An 80-year-old American, said to be a pedophile, was denied entry at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 last week.

Jerold Jay Whiting was accused of sexually molesting a 16-year-old girl in Mindanao two years ago, according to Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco.

Bureau of Immigration (BI) agents prevented Whiting from entering the country upon his arrival at the NAIA on a United Airlines flight from Guam.

The American allegedly subjected the victim to online exploitation by recording videos of their sexual acts supposedly for public distribution, Tansingco said.

The alleged sexual abuses occurred on several occasions in hotels in Manila, Cagayan de Oro and Iligan.

“We cannot allow foreign sex offenders to step in our territory as they pose serious threat to women and children,” Tansingco said. “We will not allow pedophiles to enter the Philippines. They are dangerous.”

Whiting was intercepted by BI personnel after the victim filed a complaint against him with the Iligan City police.
