World Bank approves MMDA’s 50-year drainage master plan

Ghio Ong - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA)’s proposal for a 50-year drainage master plan in the metropolis has been approved by the World Bank.

The World Bank will provide a loan for the master plan’s implementation.

“Our current drainage systems are no longer designed to accommodate such a huge volume of water in Metro Manila,” acting MMDA Chairman Romando Artes said.

The master plan, part of the Metro Manila Flood Management Project, would remain “relevant and efficient” as it would last for 50 years, Artes said.

The World Bank’s loan will be “restructured,” according to Artes.

The Department of Public Works and Highways will help with the construction.
