Angkas commits to passenger safety
MANILA, Philippines — Ride-hailing firm Angkas remains committed to passenger safety because of its 24/7 emergency accident funding, according to its chief executive officer George Royeca.
Royeca made the statement during a recent hearing of the Senate committee on public services.
He said since Angkas started in 2017, the transport company has recorded an accident rate of 0.003 percent or less than 1,000 cases per year.
“Yun po yung pini-plead namin na case. Kapag dumaan po sa training ang driver, yung ginagawa naming motorcycle safety training, nababasbasan po siya ng safety mindset. Gumaganda po yung pagtakbo niya ng motorsiklo,” Royeca said.
He said Angkas has a medical reimbursement of P200,000 in case a passenger and the rider get into an accident.
Angkas also has P500,000 coverage for death and dismemberment.
“We really make sure na maayos ang pag-aalaga sa pasahero at rider namin. No ifs, no buts,” Royeca said.
Passenger safety is being considered in the passage of the motorcycle taxi law.
The Senate panel led by Sen. Grace Poe is hearing a proposed measure to legalize motorcycle taxis in the country.
Based on a technical working group survey, 96 percent of motorcycle taxi commuters called on the government to allow motorcycles as a mode of public transportation.
