Man held for fake PCG job offers

Emmanuel Tupas - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A man allegedly offering bogus employment opportunities in the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) to jobseekers for a fee was arrested in Pasay City on Monday.

Nelson Abordo was collared by operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in front of the Redemptorist Church along Roxas Boulevard at around 6:58 p.m., CIDG director Brig. Gen. Romeo Caramat Jr. said.

Abordo’s companions, Anne Jubac and John Herald Padillo, escaped after sensing they were the subjects of an entrapment operation.

The operation was in response to information received by the CIDG that Abordo and his companions were offering applicants to be included in the final list for PCG recruitment in exchange for P15,000.

Seized from Abordo were marked money and a .45-caliber handgun with seven bullets.

Apart from complaints of estafa or swindling, Abordo is also facing charges of violating Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition after police found that the license to own and possess a firearm for his handgun was expired. – Evelyn Macairan
