NPD beefs up security after attack

MANILA, Philippines — The Northern Police District has implemented security measures following an attack on the NPD’s drug enforcement and criminal investigation and detection units before dawn on Saturday.

The NPD’s jurisdiction covers Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas and Valenzuela.

Caloocan police chief Col. Ruben Lacuesta said they implemented a checkpoint on Saturday night as the NPD launched a manhunt for the three still unidentified persons who strafed and threw a grenade at the NPD’s anti-drug and investigation offices, housed in a building in the city.

NPD director Brig. Gen. Ponce Rogelio Peñones Jr. said drug personalities may be responsible for the attack.

Lacuesta instructed the city’s police officers to be vigilant at all times.

Malabon police chief Col. Amante Daro told The STAR that police officers are on full alert as Malabon holds its cityhood festival.

He said the city police also “beefed up” personnel assigned to its sub-stations.
