MANILA, Philippines — The number of COVID cases in Quezon province continues to increase, with 39 new infections reported on Tuesday.

In a post on Facebook, the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) said Tayabas City logged 10 new cases; Sariaya, four; Pagbilao, Sampaloc and Tiaong, three each; Candelaria, Gumaca, Lucena City, Mauban, Quezon and San Francisco, two each, and Alabat, Lopez, Lucban and Padre Burgos, one each.

A total of 159 COVID cases were recorded in Quezon as of yesterday.

Tayabas has the highest number of active cases at 23 followed by Lucena with 15 and Pagbilao, 13.

Non-intensive care unit COVID bed utilization rate jumped from seven percent on Monday to 12 percent on Tuesday.

The number of patients with severe or critical cases rose from six to seven percent. ICU bed utilization remains at zero percent.

As of Tuesday, the IPHO said 76.9 percent of the target population in Quezon have been vaccinated against COVID while 220,595 have received their booster shots.

Gov. Angelina Tan urged the public to get vaccinated against COVID and continue to follow minimum health protocols to avoid contracting the virus.
