3 nabbed for sale of registered SIM cards

MANILA, Philippines —  Three people allegedly selling registered subscriber identification module (SIM) cards were arrested in Makati City on Thursday.

Two of the suspects – Elvies Basilio, 29, and Jomar Colinares, both employees of Hapson Technology – were arrested by operatives of the Southern Police District’s district special operations units in an entrapment operation in Barangay Bangkal, the SPD said in a statement.

The suspects allegedly handed over the SIM cards to a policeman posing as a buyer in return for P100,000.

Police conducted a follow-up operation at Hapson Technology, which led to the arrest of Frankeinstein David Santiago, a husband of one of the employees, who became aggressive towards the lawmen.

Charges of Republic Act 11934, or the SIM Registration Act, and RA 10175, also known as the Cybercrime Prevention Act, were filed against Basilio and Colinares before the city prosecutor’s office through inquest proceedings.

Santiago was charged with obstruction of justice and alarm and scandal.
