CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines — Six persons died while 15 others were injured in a vehicular accident in this city at dawn yesterday.

Reports said the victims, who were all related, were on their way home to Tagoloan in Misamis Oriental when they figured in the accident. They reportedly attended the burial of a relative in Zamboanga del Sur.

Among those who died at the scene was the driver of the Bongo truck that ferried the victims.

Probers have yet to identify the fatalities and those who were injured in the incident.

The victims were traveling along the Agusan Higway in Barangay Agusan when their truck collided with a Fuzo Fighter truck driven by Julieto Jabagat, according to traffic investigator Cpl. Rodulfo Abaday.

Jabagat told probers that he stepped on the breaks, but it was too late as his truck – which was loaded with live chickens – had hit the victims‘ vehicle.

He was detained at the Puerto police detention facility.

Charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide and physical injury as well as damage to property will be filed against Jabagat, Abaday said.

The fatalities were taken to the Bollozos Funeral Homes. The injured passengers were brought to different hospitals for treatment.
