Quezon City to extend aid to cop killed in shootout

Janvic Mateo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Quezon City government yesterday condoled with the family of a police officer who died in an alleged shootout in Caloocan City last weekend.

It said it would extend assistance to the family of Cpl. Noel Organo, a Special Weapons and Tactics officer of the Quezon City Police District who was killed while pursuing a suspect who indiscriminately fired his gun in Barangay Pasong Putik Proper on Sunday.

“We admire his courage and dedication to his duty of keeping our QCitizens safe from any danger,” the city government said in Filipino.

Organo died after suspect Martin Luther Nuñez, a former cadet of the Philippine Merchant Marine Academy, opened fire at responding police officers who pursued and cornered him at his home in Barangay 177 in Caloocan City.

Nuñez was also killed in the alleged shootout, while another police officer, Lt. Col. Jerry Castillo, sustained injuries.

The local government said it would also extend assistance to the injured police officer.
