2 soldiers killed in Abra NPA ambush

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — Two soldiers died in an ambush by suspected New People’s Army rebels in Barangay Gacab in Malibcong, Abra yesterday.

Another soldier was reported missing, Lt. Col. Ricardo Garcia III, 24th Infantry Battalion commander, said.

He said the fatalities were with a group of government troopers dispatched to Licuan-Baay town to assist members of the disaster response team following a magnitude 6.4 quake that struck on Tuesday night when they were ambushed.

Garcia assured the public and the families of the slain soldiers that the perpetrators of the attack would be brought to justice.
