6 wounded soldiers cited for bravery

Michael Punongbayan - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Six Army soldiers wounded in a recent firefight with communist guerrillas in Negros Occidental received medals from the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

The soldiers, who belong to the Army’s 94th Infantry Battalion (94IB), are still recuperating in a hospital in Bacolod City.

Undersecretary Jose Faustino Jr., acting chief of the Department of National Defense, on Sunday led the pinning of the Wounded Personnel Medals on the troopers.

Aside from the wounded, two soldiers were killed in the encounter that occurred in Barangay Carabalan, Himamaylan City last week.

Faustino commended the bravery and selfless dedication of the troopers of the 94IB in securing and protecting the people of Himamaylan against the illegal activities of the communist group.
