2 dead, 1 hurt in truck mishaps

MANILA, Philippines — Two people were killed while another was injured when they were hit by trucks in separate accidents in Quezon City and Manila since Thursday night.

Renz Marino Reyes and his unidentified male companion died at the scene when a tractor truck crashed into the motorcycle they were riding at a U-turn slot near Old Sauyo Road in Barangay Talipapa, Quezon City at around 12:30 a.m. yesterday, according to probers from the Quezon City Police District’s Traffic Sector 6.

Police took the truck’s driver, Jaime Atutubo Jr., 50, into custody for investigation.

Atutubo is being held on charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide and damage to property.

In Manila, Dulce Liwanag Laurio, 67, was injured when she was hit by a pickup truck at a pedestrian lane in Ermita, Manila on Thursday night. She was taken to the Philippine General Hospital for treatment.

She was crossing the street at the corner of M.H. del Pilar and Pedro Gil street at around 7:45 p.m. when a pickup truck driven by company driver Mhark Jay Nidoy, 40, hit her as it turned left, according to closed-circuit television footage obtained by the Manila Police District (MPD).

Nidoy, who is being held by the MPD, faces a charge of reckless imprudence resulting in physical injury. – Ghio Ong
