MANILA, Philippines — Newly appointed Bureau of Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco has vowed to modernize the BI through electronic services and contactless transactions.

“My priority is to modernize the bureau in terms of services and technology. This will not only speed up transactions, but also prevent corruption,” Tansingco said after inspecting the Ninoy Aquino International Airport terminals on Thursday.

He also pushed for the passage of a new immigration law to ensure that the 82-year-old Philippine Immigration Act will adapt to modern times and the demands of the people.

Tansingco assumed the BI post on Thursday after he was sworn into office by Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla.

Remulla told Tansingco to “do away with the evil practices” and initiate reforms in the bureau.
