CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines — The chief of police of Biñan, Laguna has been relieved from his post after his three intelligence officers were tagged in an alleged attempt to murder two civilian drug informants in General Mariano Alvarez, Cavite.
Lt. Col. Jerry Corpuz was replaced by Lt. Col. Rafael Torres, concurrent deputy director for administration of the Laguna police.
“We are investigating the incident to determine if there were lapses in the police operation and whether the officers followed the procedure,” Laguna police director Col. Cecilio Ison said.
The accused police officers – identified as Cpls. Mark Jefferson Arzola and Gerald Casanova, and Pat. Amiel Alcantara were disarmed and placed under restrictive custody at the Laguna police headquarters.
A civilian, identified as Joshua Almarinez, was charged with attempted murder in connection with the incident.
One of the complainants said he was handcuffed, blindfolded and beaten up by the officers.
The victims said one of the officers shot them, but missed.
They said the officers got angry when the information they gave about a supposed drug pusher turned out negative.
