Man wields knife in Gatchalian’s office

MANILA, Philippines — A 61-year-old man pulled out a knife while in the office of Valenzuela Mayor Wes Gatchalian on Tuesday.

The man, who was not identified, was held at the city police headquarters and faces a charge of alarm and scandal.

Gatchalian, in a Facebook post on Friday, said he met with the man and that they have become “friends.”

The city government said the man promised not to repeat his offense while Gatchalian pledged to help the man with his medical and psychological treatment.

“What started to be a scary experience at Mayor’s Office last Tuesday turns out to be a memorable one,” Gatchalian said.
