MANILA, Philippines — With the Duterte administration nearing its end, police have intensified the war on drugs, resulting in the confiscation of shabu amounting to millions of pesos in Metro Manila.

Anti-narcotics agents seized more than P55 million worth of shabu from a suspected drug trafficker in Caloocan City yesterday.

Tantawi Naga Sali, 36, was arrested by members of the Northern Police District during a sting in Barangay 188, Tala at around 3:50 a.m.

Authorities said Sali allegedly sold shabu for P70,000 to a policeman who posed as a buyer.

Police said they recovered from the suspect eight plastic bags containing at least eight grams of shabu and a digital weighing scale.

The suspect is being held by police on charges of violating Republic Act 9465 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.

On Saturday, around P81 million worth of shabu was confiscated by police from three drug suspects in Valenzuela.

In Parañaque City, illegal drugs worth P3.4 million were seized from Joshua Buenconsejo, 26, and Cyrel Lopez, 27, during a sting in Sucat on Sunday.

Philippine National Police officer-in-charge Lt. Gen. Vicente Danao Jr. said the suspects yielded at least 500 grams of shabu.

Danao ordered his men to continue the campaign against drug traffickers.

He vowed to curb the rampant distribution of drugs in Metro Manila.

“We are working hard to achieve our goal of protecting the community from the effects of this menace,” Danao said.
