Van falls off cliff; 6 teens dead

MANILA, Philippines — The fatalities were identified as Dalog Mangallay, 19, who was driving the van; Lip-aw Aligan, 15; Rhema Sumingwa, 18; Merly Docyogen, 17; Hazel Solang, 19, and Lendel Kieth Alfonso, 19.

Lander Maticyeng, 17, and Novelyn Sagantiyoc, 18, were injured and taken to a hospital for treatment.

Besao Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management officer Mildred Piluden said the students were on their way to the town proper from a gathering in Barangay Laylaya.

The accident reportedly occurred amid heavy rain in the area.

An investigation is ongoing.
