1,309 nabbed for gun ban violation
MANILA, Philippines — The number of people arrested for violating the nationwide election gun ban has increased to 1,309, the Philippine National Police (PNP) reported yesterday.
The ban is being implemented by the Commission on Elections in connection with the upcoming May 9 general elections.
The violators were arrested in 1,185 law enforcement operations that were implemented since Jan. 9, the PNP said.
The ban will remain in effect until the end of the election period on June 8.
The number of violators include 1,266 civilians, 14 security guards, 10 police officers and eight soldiers.
Metro Manila logged the most number of arrested violators with 437. It is followed by Central Visayas with 149; Central Luzon, 144; Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon), 140, and Western Visayas, 74.
