Gibo seeks active LGU involvement to manage pandemic
MANILA, Philippines — Former defense secretary Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro said a more active involvement and management of local government units (LGUs) would complement the difficult balancing decisions of the national government in addressing the COVID-19 pandemic.
He cited the task of allowing people to use public transport, travel and work for a living, among others.
Teodoro, a candidate for senator, said the rights of an individual may come in conflict with the rights of the public during a pandemic.
He said he would agree with the “no vaccine, no ride” policy if a majority of the public has been vaccinated, exemptions are properly implemented and public transportation will provide sections for vaccinated and non-vaccinated passengers.
Teodoro, a former Tarlac congressman, said LGUs, through their health and disaster risk management offices, are in the best position to determine the condition in their area and make the necessary recommendation and decisions.
