MRT overhauls 38 train cars
MANILA, Philippines — The Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) has overhauled 38 train cars to maintain a 70 percent passenger capacity.
In a statement yesterday, the MRT-3 management said 38 of the 72 light rail vehicles have been repaired. The LRVs also underwent quality checks and speed tests.
The remaining 34 train coaches will be repaired by the maintenance provider. Each train set is composed of three LRVs. Seventeen to 21 train sets are currently running in the mainline.
The MRT-3 is operating at 70 percent passenger capacity, or 276 passengers per train car equivalent to 827 passengers per train set, the management said.
The management urged MRT-3 passengers to continue complying with health protocols amid the threat posed by the COVID-19 Omicron variant.
