DENR nabs 2 wildlife traders in Pasay
MANILA, Philippines — Enforcers from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) have apprehended two suspected wildlife traders in Pasay City after they allegedly tried to sell pangolins through social media.
Rowena Pindot and Joel Quimado were arrested by members of the DENR’s Biodiversity Management Bureau (BMB) and Anti-Illegal Logging Task Force in an entrapment operation on Dec. 16.
Pindot and Quimado allegedly attempted to sell pangolins for P75,000 each or P4,500 per kilo.
Seized from the suspects were six live pangolins.
The DENR said the rescued pangolins were brought to the BMB’s Wildlife Rescue Center in Quezon City.
Charges of violation of Republic Act 9147 or the Wildlife Resources Protection and Conservation Act have been filed against the suspects. – Rhodina Villanueva
