Raps filed vs Davao Sur journalist’s killer
DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Charges have been filed against a suspect in the killing of a journalist in Bansalan, Davao del Sur last month.
Brandie Campaner was charged with murder before the provincial prosecutor’s office in Davao del Sur, Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS) chief Joel Sy Egco said yesterday.
Egco said witnesses identified Campaner as the man who shot Olando Dinoy, a reporter of Newsline Philippines.
He said the PTFoMS declared that the killing of Dinoy was not related to his work as a journalist.
Police are looking at a grudge in relation to the victim’s endeavors outside his profession as the likely motive for the killing.
Egco commended the special investigation task group created by the Philippine National Police for the speedy resolution of the case.
He called for an extensive manhunt for Campaner.
“While the case is deemed non-work-related, we will continue to monitor and work double-time to catch his killers and whoever may be behind them. There is no justification for murder,” Egco said.
Dinoy was shot several several times by a man who casually entered his apartment.
